Job Summary

The Finance Officer position is a mid-level position reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).  Under the direction of the CFO, the Finance Officer will be responsible for a wide-array of accounting and financial duties including participation in the provision of effective strategic and financial planning and providing controllership functions. 

Hours will be Monday- Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm. Parking will be provided. This is a temporary role with potential to extend to permanent for the right candidate.

Duties/Responsibilities (Please note, these duties are consistent with a Permanent role and may be less exhaustive for this Temporary assignment)

  • Participate in the provision of effective strategic and financial planning by:
  • Providing financial and accounting advice, direction and leadership;
  • Preparing timely detailed reports and analysis on financial and administrative matters;
  • Attending meetings and making presentations to the Finance Committee
  • Assist with providing controllership functions in order to ensure finances are managed according to the organization’s legislation, policies, procedures and generally accepted accounting principles by:
  • Assisting with managing and safeguarding information;
  • Maintaining full and accurate accounting records;
  • Assisting with the monitoring and managing of accounting and financial systems;
  • Assist with the monitoring, recording, reviewing and reporting of all financial decisions and transactions and ensuring compliance with the Finance and Admin Law;
  • Ensuring all accounting work assigned within the accounting cycle is completed in a timely and accurate manner, starting with recording and processing of all financial decisions and transactions that lead up to the preparation of the financial statements;
  • Collect, interpret and report financial data;
  • Review and reconcile general ledger accounts and process journal entries;
  • Ensuring, on a monthly basis, that the control account and sub-account ledgers balance;
  • Monitoring the cash flow and monthly financial statements and recommending corrective actions as necessary;
  • Communicate and collaborate with department managers to stay abreast of spending, budgeting and reports;
  • Assist with quarterly reporting to the finance committee;
  • Assist in preparing for the annual audit and liaison with the external auditors;
  • Training, mentoring and supervising accounting staff and providing accounting services and support to Program managers and departmental staff;
  • Other related duties and required or assigned.

Education, training and/or experience:

  • Two (2) year diploma in accounting or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that includes accounting courses and a minimum of three (3) years of recent related training or experience;
  • Advanced computer proficiency and aptitude (Word, Excel, Outlook, Xyntax)
  • Valid BC Driver’s License
  • Criminal records check
