Overview

Our client, a leading producer of quality wines in British Columbia, Ontario, and Nova Scotia. Canada’s Largest Canadian-Owned Winery, is looking to hire a Quality Assurance Manager.

This role is responsible for managing the operations of Quality Control Laboratory for Western Canada (ABS, HACCP and ISO Standards) ensuring corporate and plant objectives are aligned and adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Quality, HACCP and Health & Safety Standards as well leadership and management of unionized lab staff. This position reports to the National Quality Director.

 

The successful candidate will be accountable for:

  • Manage the Quality Control Labs for the Western Canada  ensuring compliance with: ABS, HACCP, ISO and Health and Safety initiatives and standards
  • Ensure  service levels of Lab(s) meet operational needs of Quality Assurance, Winemaking and Bottle shop
  • Technical liaison for multiple departments, wineries and 3rd party
  • Initiates, recommends and leads changes such as automation and  team restructuring
  • Directs the activities of the Quality Control  Department ensuring on time and first pass quality of products
  • Assists in the development GMP and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) policies for Western Canada labs
  • Manage applicable Regulatory objectives and implement within Quality Control laboratory
  • Utilize Sensory technical expertise to continue to train and develop sensory panelists
  • Assist with the development of strategic objectives for Western Canada, ensuring alignment with Corporate and Operations objectives
  • Manage and provide leadership to Union and QC Lab Technicians and other staff members as required
  • Prepare and manage Quality Control Laboratory operating budgets for Western Canada Labs as well  plans and executes efficiency/cost cutting initiatives
  • Selects, develops and evaluates staff to ensure the efficient operation of the function and works with and advises staff on administrative policies and procedures;  organizes, prioritizes and schedules  work for  laboratory operations
  • Prepare reports pertaining to Western Canada Lab
  • Adherence to Quality Assurance protocol  and manage the  calibration of all instruments and analyses of national audits
  • Trouble Shoot  and communicate customer and consumer complaints
  • Ensures a safe and healthy work environment through the effective operation of the Health and Safety program and joint H&S committee.
  • Assures the safety of employees through compliance with EH&S regulations and maintains an attitude that all incidents’ are preventable

 

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications/skills:

  • Undergraduate Degree:  B.Sc. with a focus in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry with 2+ years working in a unionized environment managing union employees
  • Knowledge of Analytical Chemistry, Microbiology, Winemaking, Sensory Evaluation and ABS (HACCP and ISO Standards
  • Trained Internal Auditor
  • Computer Skills(MS Word, Spreadsheets, Relational Database, PowerPoint, Visio, MS Access, Windows)
