Overview

Our client, a construction company based in Kelowna is seeking an experienced Controller.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Manage and supervise entire accounting process.
  • Oversee all costing and budgeting functions
  • Supervise and mentor a dedicated accounting team
  • Review and grow accounting processes and procedures
  • Review payroll with a full understanding of all government reporting
  • Implement internal controls to ensure the safeguarding of the company’s assets
  • Compile quarterly and annual reporting and perform variance analysis
  • Look for efficiency opportunities in work flow processes
  • Work with project managers and refine business processes
  • Ensuring financial reporting is performed in a timely and accurate manner in accordance to GAAP
  • Work with Auditors and oversee preparation of financial statements and working papers
  • Communicated financial results with all business unit leadership teams
  • Review current software, and all accounting procedures and recommend improvements
  • Look for efficiency opportunities in work flow processes
  • Oversee cash application and revenue recognition
  • Maintain compliance and relationship with commercial bank account managers

Qualifications and skill

  • Must have construction experience
  • A Chartered Professional Accounting Designation
  • 3-5 years of related accounting/finance experience, preferably in the construction industry
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be a person who can problem solve and delegate procedures
  • Good business acumen and strong PC skills a must
  • Solid and practical experience in all phases of Accounting and working paper preparation
  • Intermediate knowledge of financial systems, reporting and analysis
  • Budget and forecasting experience
  • Cost efficient, highly organized and results oriented
  • Strong analytical and problem solving abilities
  • Highly motivated, enthusiastic and dedicated
  • Dedicated to professionalism and continuous improvement
  • Excellent Team leader
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Experience in construction safety management is an asset
  • Experience with Sage 50 and Sage 100

 

Office Hours of this position are 8 AM tp 4 PM Monday to Friday.
